âHank! Hank, where are you!â
âWhat is your mother doing?â asked Tex.
âI think sheâs calling for Hank,â said Marge.
Theyâd had a wonderful day being chauffeured around LA by Opalâs driver. Theyâd seen the Hollywood Walk of Fame, Rodeo Drive, The Getty⦠And of course Santa Monica Pier, the Venice Boardwalk and the Venice Canals. Though she hadnât seen Matthew Perry, as sheâd hoped. Marge was a big Matthew Perry fan, and had followed the actor since his Friends days. In fact they hadnât seen any famous actors or actresses at all, even though theyâd taken the Celebrity Home Tour, leaving the limo at the starting point.
âNow that you mention it, I havenât seen Hank for a while,â said Tex.
âMe neither. He wasnât at dinner, and I donât remember seeing him when we got back.â
âIâll bet he went into town and wonât be back until heâs seen all the sights.â
âHank!â Vesta was still yelling, as if calling her dog. âHank, come back here!â
âDid Odelia tell you about what happened today?â asked Marge.
âYeah, she did. Absolutely horrifying. I mean, who would want to try and kill a nice lady like Opal? Just look at all the good she does with her show, and all the charities she supports.â
âShe is a nice lady,â Marge agreed. She had been watching Opalâs show for so long it had become part of her life. âProbably someone whoâs jealous of her success.â
âOr someone whoâs not all there,â Tex said as he took a seat on the edge of the bed and bounced up and down on the thick box spring mattress. âI love this mattress, donât you? Almost as if weâre staying at some posh five-star hotel.â
âThis is better than a five-star hotel,â said Marge. âMore like a six-star hotel.â
âThe Opal,â said Tex, spreading his hands as if indicating a marquee. âAn experience that will last you a lifetime.â
âShe could rent out this guesthouse and make a small fortune,â Marge agreed as she placed her smartphone on the nightstand. Sheâd quickly checked TMZ, one of her favorite sites. She liked a bit of light reading before going to bed.
âShe doesnât need to make a fortune. Iâll bet sheâs a millionaireâor a billionaire.â
âI think sheâs a billionaire. At least thatâs what the magazines are saying.â
âAnd the magazines never lie,â said Tex with a wink.
They both got under the covers and grinned like a couple of teenagers.
âSo comfy,â said Marge.
âSo cozy,â said Tex.
He reached for his copy of Field & Stream and she grabbed her copy of Star Magazine, and moments later they were both engrossed in their bedtime literature.
âHank!â Gran hollered somewhere outside. âGet your ass back here!â
